MR. JAN VAN DYK of Coaldale, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Grietje Van Dyk, passed away at St. Michael's Health Centre on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the age of 94 years.
Jan Van Dyk, beloved husband, Father, Opa, and Great-Opa, was called home to heaven on December 8, 2011 after a lengthy battle with Altzheimers.
Jan was born in Holland on November 17, 1917 and immigrated to Canada with his wife Grietje in 1951 and settled in Coaldale.
Jan had a great love of music and started playing organ at a young age. He was organist at the Canadian Reformed Church in Coaldale for many years. He retired from his job at Superior Propane in 1982, and stayed active after retirement when he took up painting, had more time to tend to his flower gardens every spring and summer, and was happiest just tinkering around in his workshop.
Jan is survived by his children Bert, Elsie Livergood, Shirley (Brian) Rutt, Allan (Aneta), Elmer (Elsa), 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is predeased by his wife Grietje, parents Elsje and Berend Jan, his sister Gerrigje, and brothers Jakob and Hank.
Interment will take place at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the Coaldale Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm at the CANADIAN REFORMED CHURCH, Highway 3, Coaldale with Reverend D. Poppe, officiating.
