Jacoba Slingerland (van den Hoek), beloved wife of the late Jacob Slingerland, of Bethesda Care Home in Picture Butte, passed away in Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the age of 89 years.
Jacoba is survived by her children Jenny de Vos (Wim), Nellie Vandenberg (Marty), Neil Slingerland (Margaret), Joanne Vande Bruinhorst (Edy), Margaret Pelleboer (Arend), Tony Slingerland (Nella), Fran Vanden Broek (Ken), Jake Slingerland (Caroline), Linda Vanden Broek (Rob), Judy Groenendyk (Jos), and Ben Slingerland (Korlinda); 84 grandchildren; and 121 great-grandchildren. As well as 3 brothers, Kor Vanden Hoek (Gonnie), Olivier Vanden Hoek, and Marinus Van den Hoek (Ann); and 3 sisters, Maatje Scheele, Anneke Slingerland, and Klazina Visser (Pete). Brothers-in-law Wim Slingerland (Teunie), Tony Slingerland (Margaret), and Andy Slingerland (Nita).
She was predeceased by her husband Jacob Slingerland (2009); her parents Anthonie and Pietertje van den Hoek; parents-in-law Cornelis and Jannigje Slingerland; son-in-law Harry Van Maanen; grandchildren Charles Vanden Broek and Lyle Vandenberg; brother Boudewyn van den Hoek; sister Korrie Ouwerkerk; brothers-in-law Marinus Scheele, Anthonie Ouwerkerk, Teun Van Herk, Kees Slingerland, Huib de Kok, John Overeem, and Tony Ouwerkerk; sisters-in-law Judith, Maria, and stillborn sister Slingerland; Jannie de Kok; Judith Overeem; and Fijgje Van Herk.
Condolences will be held from 7:00 to 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Martin Brothers Funeral Chapel for residents of Bethesda and Eventide Care homes, as well as anyone else with mobility challenges. Condolences will be open for anyone else wishing to pay their respects from 7:30 to 8:30 P.M. the same evening.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Picture Butte with reverend E.C. Adams officiating. A private Graveside Service will follow at Picture Butte Memorial Cemetery for immediate family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethesda Care Home.
