Official Obituary of
19/6/1931 - to - 3/9/2011
WILLIAM DONALD HOFMAN, beloved husband of Bernice Hofman, passed away with family at his side at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the age of 80 years.
William (Bill) was born on June 19, 1931 in Barons, Alberta to Morris and Nettie Hofman and grew up on his parent's farm in the Nobleford area. Bill married Bernice Veldhuis on August 24, 1957. He was employed with the Department of National Defense as a Crash Rescue Firefighter from 1956 to 1964 and then became employed with Noble Cultivators as a Supervisor in the Blade department. Bill served on the Nobleford Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years serving as Fire Chief for 18 of those years. In 1986 Bill received the Fire Service Exemplary Service Medal presented by Alberta Lieutenant Governor Helen Hunley.
Bill enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, travelling and most of all visiting with family and friends. You couldn't visit his yard without sitting on or looking at something he craftily built with his own two hands. Another favorite pass time of Bill's was sleep....he now enjoys a peaceful, eternal, well deserved rest.
Bill is survived by his wife Bernice, his two sons; Kirk (Barb) and Jim (Linda), his grandchildren David (Gen), Amanda, Shaun, Taryn and Kailyn; his sisters Hilda Zoeteman and Janteanne (Henry) Van Camp; sister-in-laws Mary Jeanne Hofman, Dorothy May and Joan Veldhuis; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his son David in 1969, his father in 1982, his mother in 1986, his brother Tymen in 2004, brother-in-laws: John Zoeteman (1999), Ken May (2000), Douglas Wilson (2002) and Allen Veldhuis (2009); sister-in-law Johanna Wilson in 2009.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00 and 9:00 pm on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the MONARCH REFORMED CHURCH (little white church in the country) with Pastor Bob Derrick officiating.
Interment to follow in the Monarch Nobleford Cemetery.
