Mrs. Helene Granson (nee Heimann) of Coaldale, beloved wife of the late Mr. Wilhelm Granson, passed away at Coaldale Health Centre on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at the age of 91 years.

Helene was of German descent born September 10, 1928 in the German settlement Josefstal, Ukraine. In 1943 Helene along with her mother and sisters fled to Varendorf Germany. Helene married Wilhelm on May 13th, 1951 in Herbern Germany. They immigrated to Canada in June of 1951 and settled in Southern Alberta.

Mom’s passion was her family. Family meant everything to her, and everything was done together growing up. Mom loved to bake and cook for her family, and we will always remember our family time together every Christmas Eve. She would always make the traditional German cooking we loved: smoked mackerel, pickled herring, baked ham, German meatballs, potato salad (Mom’s potato salad was the best) and all the baking, rice pudding and oft-suppe.

Mom and Dad spent many hours in the garden and tending the rose beds. Their garden would always produce enough vegetables for the whole neighborhood. Everything from tomatoes, peppers, onions, and cucumbers (her pickles were the best).

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Anneliese (John) Klassen, William (Denise) Granson and Rudy (Wendy) Granson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Gregory (Jody) Klassen and  their sons Cache and Colton, Stephen (Christie) Klassen  and their daughters Amara and Taylor, Chris (Lindsey) Barron and their daughters Chloe and Paige, Ryan (Mary) Granson,, their son Mitchell and daughter Hailey, Eric (Jasmine) Granson  and their sons Alexander and Jamie.

Helene was predeceased by her husband Wilhelm on February 13, 2020. They had been married for 68 years.

A private family Graveside Service will be held for Helene at the Coaldale Community Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Coaldale Health Centre for the compassionate care given to our mom during her time there.
