Helen Dorner

HELEN VICTORIA DORNER, beloved wife of the late Joseph Dorner, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 2, 2007 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 94 years.

Helen was born in Bow Island on June 7, 1913 and raised on the family farm, south of Bow Island. She married Joseph ""Joe"" Dorner in St. Michael's Church, Bow Island, on September 24, 1934. They moved to Etzikom and soon bought land in the Hoping District, which they farmed for 40 years. Helen operated the Avalon Post Office until it closed. Helen raised a large garden on the farm and always had fresh baking, home preserves and a hot meal (often fresh fried chicken) when company arrived. She was an active member of the Catholic Women's League with the Sacred Heart Parish at Faith and St. Patrick's Parish in Lethbridge. She was also a member of the Ladies Altar Society. Helen and Joe retired to Lethbridge in 1974. Helen resided at the Pemmican Lodge since 1999.

Helen is survived by her daughter Pauline (Joe) Muchka of Calgary; her son Albert Dorner of Lethbridge; grandchildren Daniel Geisler of Calgary, Bradley (Diane) Muchka of Calgary, Bryan (Joanne) Muchka of St. Paul, and Joanne (Norm) Dargis of Beaumont; great-grandchildren Ashley and Gregory Muchka, Alyssa and Carley Muchka, and Jessica and Samantha Dargis. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Anna Lyczewski of Calgary and Thelma Lyczewski of Great Falls, Montana; brother-in-law George Ehnes of Lethbridge; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Joe in 2001, daughter Marie Geisler in 1988, her parents Jacob and Emilia Lyczewski, infant brother Bernard, brothers Frank, John, Matt and Fred Lyczewski, sister Mary Ehnes, sisters-in-law Maggie and Magdalena Lyczewski and son-in-law Harold Geisler.

Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00PM on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at MARTIN BROS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Friday, July 6, 2007 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 - 12 Ave South, Lethbridge, with Father Brian Hubka celebrant. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery.
