Norman Hall
Official Obituary of
2/10/1920 - to - 17/6/2010
Norman Hall beloved husband of Lorraine Hall of Lethbridge and formerly of Toronto, ON passed away quietly at home on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the age of almost 90 years. Norman was a very kind and generous husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Born in Toronto, ON., Norman spent his childhood summers on the Muskoka Lakes in Ontario, delivering mail by boat and learning to love fishing and canoeing at an early age. As a young man, Norman served during WWII on artillery defenses at Victoria, BC, returning to Ontario after a nasty bout of rheumatic fever which freed him from service to work at Geico making bullets for the war effort, where he met his bride-to-be Lorraine. The birth of a son saw the young couple return to Lethbridge after the war, where Norman began a long career with Canada Agriculture's 'Experimental Farm' or later The Research Station, where he served as a field technician in Cereals and later in the Entomology section training future scientists how to defend crops from various insects and assisted to put on seriously large barbeques for staff occasions. Norman was active for many years with the B.P.O.E. Elks, and after retirement with F.S.N.A. where he assisted seniors and superannuates. He was a devoted family man and supporter of numerous charities.
Norman is survived by his loving wife Lorraine (nee Speaker) of sixty five years; daughter Connie L. Hall of Lethbridge; former son-in-law John Back; grand-daughter Angela Johnson of Lethbridge, AB.; brother-in-law, Robert McKanna (Millicent) of Calgary, formerly of Lethbridge, AB.; and sister-in-law Mavis Hall (David) of Bracebridge, Muskoka, ON.; as well as cousin Charles (Muriel) Hall, and nieces and nephews (Paul, Helen, Peter, Janet, Karen, Linda, Sandra, Kevin, Carey).
He was predeceased by son, Robert Norman; his parents, Janet and George Hall; brother David; sister, Marjorie Emond (Harry) Cole (Elwood); parents-in-law John Speaker (Alice) and Frank Hosek (Alice); brothers-in-law Edward Speaker and Steve Young; sister-in-law Millicent (nee Speaker) McKanna; daughter-in-law Rose de Laet; cousin John (Muriel) Hall and nephews Douglas Hall and Gary Young.
Cremation will be followed by a Private Family Graveside Service and interment at Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, #207, 542 - 7 Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 2H1, www.heartandstroke.ca.
