1926 ~ 2008

MRS. EVELYN GROVES (nee Sailer) of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Len Groves, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2008 at the age of 81 years.

Evelyn was raised in Medicine Hat, and married Leonard Groves in 1943. They moved to Lethbridge in 1945 and raised two sons, Dexter and Alan. In 1955 she returned to work at Eaton's as a clerk, followed by 25 years as a teller at the Royal Bank, till her retirement. She joined the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in 1949 and served 59 years continuously till her passing when she was the longest surviving member. She served as President in 1950, 1951, 1953, 1974, 1977 and 1978. She was honoured as Mother of the Year in 1985. She assisted Len as Men's President in 1982 - 1984. She was honored with George Zarycki in 1990 as Mr. & Mrs. Eagle. During her membership she served in most offices and committees. Her fondest memories were of Ritual Teams, Drill Teams Captain, assisting the teams in numerous championships and awards. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing cards, fishing and golfing. She actively volunteered her time for others and hosted her many friends regularly.

She was cherished by her devoted friend, for the past 12 years, Tony Zatko. She was a devoted mother to her family being loved and remembered by Dexter (Susanne) Groves of Lethbridge with their family of 4 children and 8 grandchildren and Alan (Sophie) Groves of Medicine Hat with their family of 3 children and 3 grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Beierbach of Medicine Hat and her brother Rick (Doreen) Sailer of Nanton. She was predeceased by her parents, Emma and Fred Sailer as well as her first husband Len, her second husband George Zarycki and her younger sister Lila Teierle.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00pm on Monday, March 24, 2008 at the FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLE'S HALL, 631-13th St. N., Lethbridge, AB, with Pastor Kevin Powell officiating. Coffee and fellowship to follow.
