Gorrie Jack

MR. JACK GORRIE of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Joyce Gorrie, passed away after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the age of 78 years.

Jack was born in Wawanesa, Manitoba on September 23, 1929 to Charles and Evelyn Gorrie, the youngest of 7 children. After completing school in Wawanesa he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Manitoba in 1951. Jack obtained certification as a Registered Microbiologist from the National Registry of Microbiologists in 1963 and was granted the designation of M.R.S.H. in The Royal Society of Health in 1964.

Jack's career as a microbiologist spanned thirty eight years. He worked at the Galt Hospital, St. Michael's and Lethbridge Municipal Hospital. Jack had an active private life which included hunting, curling, fishing, golf and travel. While many of these activities were enjoyed in Lethbridge, they also were enjoyed in Waterton and Arizona. In addition, Jack was a Director of the Alberta Motor Association and Waterton Lease Holder Association.

Besides his loving wife Joyce, Jack is survived by his sons John (Elaine Thibault) and Glen (Susan Gorrie) and grandchild Cameron.

Jack was predeceased by his parents Charles and Evelyn and brothers Ken, Morley, Elwood, Jack, Bill and Chuck and son Ken.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital and the staff of St Michaels Long Term Care facility.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Reception held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at ERICKSEN'S (Bsmt level of the Keg Restaurant, back entrance), 1715 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge.

At Jack's request, there will be no Funeral Services.
