Official Obituary of
26/11/1917 - to - 8/6/2009
MR. ANTONI GONCZAR of Lethbridge, beloved father of John Gonczar, passed away on June 8, 2009 at the age of 91 years.
Born on November 26, 1917 in Eastern Poland, Tony served in the Polish Army during World War II and immigrated to Lethbridge in 1947. After working in the coal mines, he bartended at the Marquis Hotel for many years. Long after he retired, people remembered Tony for his sweet temperament and kindness. A clever and resourceful man, he recycled decades before it became popular. His long life was due in part to the prolific garden he tended every year. Family, friends and neighbors alike benefited from his garden's bounty.
Tony always had praise for the wonderful people at Extendicare Lethbridge. Tony's family wishes to acknowledge the professional and loving care given to Tony during his three years residence at Extendicare.
Antoni Gonczar is survived by his only son John and daughter-in-law Kim Gonczar, along with their daughter Alana.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at ST. BASIL'S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 - 13th Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Father Tim Boyle, celebrant. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to a Catholic charity.
