It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother and baba, Maria Goluk on January 20, 2011 at the age of 85 years.

Maria was born in Ukraine July 26, 1925 and was subjected to the hardships of war. She and husband Frank immigrated to Canada in 1949, settling in the Picture Butte area, moving to Lethbridge in 1953 where they raised 5 children.

Maria had a great sense of humor and life was characterized by her commitment to her family . She lived for her husband and children and was passionate about their care.

She cooked delicious meals and hounded everyone to ""eat some more"". She loved her family dearly and was happiest when she was with them - especially the grandchildren as her favorite saying was: "" big kids, big trouble, small kids, small trouble"". She enjoyed gardening with fabulous flowers, vegetable gardens and the most beautiful geraniums.

Frank`s death in 2005 was very difficult for her and she missed him terribly. While it is with sorrow that we lose Mom, it is mixed with the knowledge that she is reunited with Dad. This brings comfort in her passing.

She is predeceased by, her husband Frank, daughter Holly (Anna) Madsen, son Steve, and son-in-law Danny Madsen. She is survived by two sons Mike of Lethbridge, and John (Marian) of Pincher Creek, two daughters Olga (John) Sinclair and Sonja Smith both of Lethbridge, four grandchildren Rodney, Michael, Stephanie, and Greg also two great grandchildren Grace and Noah.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Extendicare Lethbridge and Edith Cavell Care Centre for their excellent care, kindness, and compassion shown to Maria while caring for her. May God bless you all.

Funeral Parastasis Prayers will be celebrated at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge, with Father Gary Sedgwick, celebrant.

Funeral Divine Liturgy Prayers will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at SS. PETER & PAUL GREEK-CATHOLIC CHURCH, 643 12B Street North, Lethbridge, with Father Gary Sedgwick, celebrant.

Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
