GLADYS ROMANCHUK slipped away peacefully on Friday, April 18th at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Mike. Her memory will always be cherished by her children, Pat Bales, Wayne (Alice) and Bob; grandchildren Kevin Bales and his children Kevin and Ryan, Elaine (Rob) Wishart, Debby Bales, Doug Romanchuk (Sacha), Lisa Romanchuk, Stacy Romanchuk (Trish) and their child Abigail, and A.J. (Meagan) Romanchuk; sisters and brothers in law Annie Elaschuk, Bill Romanchuk, John (Lillian) Romanchuk, Esther Romanchuk, Eva (Les) Porter, Veronica (Alex) Uhryn, Lil (Steve) Shimek, and Marion Romanchuk; as well as many special nieces and nephews
Gladys was predeceased by her brothers, Sydney and Orville Sorgard, as well as her sister and closest friend, Myrtle and also by her grandson Dougie Bales.
Gladys was born in Turin on October 3rd, 1917 and was raised and educated there. As a young girl she spent many happy days exploring the beauty of Waterton Lakes National Park with her friends and cousins. Her appreciation for Waterton was carried throughout her life and has been passed to her children and grandchildren.
She married Mike Romanchuk on July 11, 1942. They farmed together near Turin for many years, retiring to Lethbridge in 1977. They enjoyed travelling and camping in their motor home, trips to the mountains, west coast and a Hawaiian vacation were highlights. Gladys especially loved family picnics, birthdays and holiday gatherings. She was a wonderful mom and grandma and will truly be missed.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Drs. Sommerfeldt and Li for their caring concern for mother. Also thank you to the staff on 5B at LRH for their help and patience over the last few weeks and more recently the staff at Extendicare.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4th St. S., Lethbridge, AB with Reverend Elizabeth Brown, officiating.
