Gladys Ernst passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Health Center with her family by her side on Wednesday May 29, 2013 at the age of 83. Gladys was born in Poland on May 24, 1930. In 1949 she immigrated to Canada where she married her husband Karl on February 3, 1951. Gladys and Karl worked tirelessly to make a life for themselves and their 4 daughters. Gladys loved her family dearly and spent many hours babysitting and taking her grandchildren out camping, fishing or a shopping trip on the bus. She had a soft heart for animals as she would often take in stray dogs, cats or birds. Gladys welcomed many family and friends into her home with open arms, often cooking wonderful polish dishes for hours on her feet without a complaint."" No one could make perogies and cabbage rolls like Grandma did"" In her later years, Gladys enjoyed tending to her beautiful garden and spending time with her family. Gladys is survived by her daughters, Jeannie, Theresa and Christine; her 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson Grant in 1987, husband Karl in 2003 and her daughter Lily in 2010.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 3, 2013 at ST. BASIL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH | 604- 13th Street North, Lethbridge with Father Kevin Tumback, celebrant.
