Gertrude was born on March 17, 1918, in Dr. Woodcocks house which was close to the Oseen farm in Sundial, Alberta.

She is lovingly remembered by son, Allan Odland (Evelyn) and their daughters Tracy Albiston (John), Sherri Mantello, Pam Pasquotti (Mario), Laura Odland and Jamie Hanna (Mike); daughter Dianne Wall (Abe) and their daughter Rhonda Wall (John); daughter Heather Evanson (John) and their sons Jason (Kathy), Jeremy (Marlene), Spencer, and Adam; daughter Bonnie Johnson (Eric) and son Bob Hall (Joan), son Mitchell, daughter Trina Gordon (Andrew); daughter Pat Corns (Bryan) and sons Jerad (Francesca), Jordan and daughter Nicole (Paul) along with 17 great-grandchildren; and her brother Chester (Hilda). She is predeceased by her husband Art Howg, grandsons Clinton Hall and Mike Wall, brothers Alfred, Elmer, Arvid and Carl as well as her sister Alice Griffin.

Gertrude received her schooling in Sundial and later at the Calgary Normal School 1937-1938. She then taught at the Shepherd Hill School in the Schuler area and later taught school at Brunetta School and in Retlaw. Gertrude taught school for 13 years in the Dr. Hamman School in Taber. She retired from school teaching in 1973. In the summer of 1992, she found a wonderful man, Arthur Howg, whom she had known for many years. They were married on December 19, 1992. They had three months of happiness but somehow it was not meant to be and Art passed away suddenly on March 12, 1993, from a heart attack. The last few years, she resided in Clearview Lodge in Taber and got to renew old friendships and enjoyed the staff along with new friends. She passed away peacefully at the age of 93 years surrounded by family.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday February 1, 2012 at 1:00PM at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 Street South, Lethbridge, AB with Rev. Sandra Riddell, officiating.

Interment to follow in Archmount Cemetery.
