Gerrit Van Zeggelaar
Service Details
The Lord is my light and my salvation. On September 30, 2011 Gerrit went peacefully to be with his Lord at the age of 71 years. He is the loving husband of Katherine and the loving father and grandfather of Mark (Angie) with their son Matthew, Brent (Cara) with their sons Tyson and Kyle and his daughter Nicole Van Zeggelaar.
He will be greatly missed by his sisters; Gerda (Nick) Wamsteeker, Tressea (Nick) Brandhorst, his brother John (Bertha), sister in law Rita Van Zeggelaar, brothers and sisters-in-law; Henry & Helene Molenaar, John & Joanne Molenaar, Mint Molenaar, Debra & Roger Moulton plus many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Art and Wilma Van Zeggelaar, brothers Walter and Henry and parents-in-law Jerry & Minnie Molenaar.
Gerrit came to Canada with his family in 1948 and settled in the Iron Springs area. Gerrit loved dairy farming and loved working alongside his two sons. Over the years, he had the privilege of serving as a board member on many dairy and poultry boards. He was a great teacher for his sons and daughter and his grandsons. He also had a gift for music which he used very much. Gerrit was a faithful member of the Iron Springs Christian Reformed Church. He loved his church family and enjoyed the many years he served on Council and directing church and Dutch Canadian choirs. He loved to sing solos and sing in the male quartet which he did until his passing.
Family and friends may pay their respects between 7:00 and 9:00 pm on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge.
A Graveside Service will be held at the HUNTSVILLE CEMETERY at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 in the IRON SPRINGS CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, with Pastor Greg Sinclair, officiating.
