MR. JOHN GERLA of Lethbridge, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Health Care Centre on Monday, November 9, 2009 at the age of 79 years.

John was born in Lethbridge and raised in Warner, Alberta.

He moved to Lethbridge in 1951 where he worked for Case Company until 1963 and then started his career with the City of Lethbridge, first as Administrative Assistant, and then as City Clerk, until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and conservationist, caring for bluebird nests at Lundbreck for several years.

John was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #4. After suffering a stroke he became a resident at St. Michael's Health Centre where he enjoyed the companionship of many friends until his passing. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

John is survived by his daughter Karen Argento, his son Greg Gerla, and their mother Doreen Taylor, along with his grandson Connor Gerla, his sisters; Mary Wilson of Edmonton, and Katy Dunham of Okotoks, and his brother Michael (Dorothy) Gerla of Portland, Oregon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Besides his loving second wife Rose, he was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Katherina, and an infant son Michael, as well as his brother Frank.

A Memorial Reception will be held between 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm on Monday, November 16, 2009 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4th Street South, Lethbridge.

Inurnment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery, with Wes Midgett, officiating.
