Gerda May

Gerda May, beloved mother of Chérie May, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre after a short illness, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 71 years.

Gerda was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. She had a warm, animated personality and a signature phrase—"Just peachy!"—that perfectly captured her spirit. She worked as a court clerk and justice of the peace for over 40 years before becoming a marriage commissioner, helping countless couples begin their lives together with kindness and joy.

She was also a gifted artist who found beauty in everything. Whether working with resin, cakes, or bringing an idea to life, she poured her heart into every creation. Among the many things that brought her joy, Gerda cherished her little Yorkie, Pipsqueak, her constant companion.

She is survived by her loving family, including her siblings and their spouses: Clarence (Johanna) Arnoldussen, Janette (John) Moens, Sanderina (Jake - deceased) Kooyman, Willy (John) Guliker, Tilly (Henry) Van Sluys, John (Rita) Arnoldussen, Mary Anne (Dick) Westeringh, and Hank (Stella) Arnoldussen. She is also remembered by her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Crystal (Maurice - deceased) Biron, Dale (Carol) May, and Paul (Rhonda) May.

Besides her dear husband, Wayne Robert May who passed away in 2016, Gerda was predeceased by her parents, John and Willemina Arnoldussen; infant sister Willemina; nephew Joel Arnoldussen; sister-in-law Sam, and brothers-in-law Maurice Biron and Jake Kooyman.

Gerda’s genuine warmth, laughter, and creative spirit will be deeply missed, but the memories she leaves behind will forever color the lives of those who loved her.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 7, 2025, at NETHERLANDS REFORMED CONGREGATION, 90022 RANGE RD 211, LETHBRIDGE COUNTY, Alberta, with Reverend Kleijer, officiating.
