MR. GEORGE ANTON EHNES of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Mary Ehnes, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the age of 98 years.

He was born on July 12, 1910 in Crimea, Russia and immigrated with his family to Canada in 1911 settling in the Faith district. He acquired his own homestead in 1928 where he farmed until 1973. George married Mary Lyczewski from Bow Island on December 27, 1939. Their first years of farming were not easy so they moved to Lethbridge for the winter months. Over the years George worked as a mechanic for Fred King Motors, Imperial Motors, White Rose Garage and Enerson's; owned the Welling General Store for a year; became a realtor with Anderson Agencies and Chief Mountain Realty; while still continuing to farm in Etzikom. George took great pleasure in a good game of crib, driving his Oldsmobile, and visiting with family and friends.

George is survived by two daughters, six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren: Virginia (Eugene) Wauters of Lethbridge and Patricia Watrin of Calgary; Karen Wauters (Thomas Ruhstaller) Larissa, Ginny, Moritz, Selina of Luxembourg; Cheryl (Yuey) Low, Trevor, Justin of Chestermere; Susan (Len) Mandel, Daniel, Dawson of Lethbridge; Gerrad (Sandra) Wauters, Bailey of Wrentham; Linda Wauters, Mary, Eric of Coaldale; Philip (Mona) Wauters, Brody, Emily, Sadie of Lethbridge. He is also survived by brother Gabriel (Christina) Ehnes of St. Albert; sister Maggie Shade of Edmonton; sisters-in-law Thekla Ehnes of Lethbridge, Anna Lyczewski of Calgary and Thelma Lyczewski of Great Falls, Montana; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary, parents George and Clara, sisters Annamary (Ferdinand) Harty and Bertha (Ed) Folden, brothers Pius Ehnes and John (Ila) Ehnes, brother-in-law Ted Shade, nephew Ed Ehnes and eight Lyczewski in-laws.

Vigil Rites will be held at 7:00pm on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, November 10, 2008 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 - 12 Ave South, Lethbridge, with Father Tim Boyle celebrant. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
