Service Details
MR. GEORGE BROOKS of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Margaret Brooks, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on May 17, 2011 at the age of 93 years.
Besides his loving wife Margaret, to whom he was married for 68 years, George leaves to mourn his four children; Donna Lee (Gene) Saffran, David (Shirley) Brooks, Sheryl Brooks (Pete), Leslie (Cindy) Brooks, grandchildren; Michele Kobylanski, Georgina Shumaker, Kenneth Shumaker, Richard Shumaker, Dan Brooks, Shelly Orban, Tania Larko, and Codi Brooks, as well as seven great-grandchildren.
George was born at Purple Springs and raised on the family ranch, where they accumulated a large herd of horses that ranged freely from the Old Man River to the Montana border. George became an avid horseman and rancher. While helping a farmer at Warner harvest wheat in the fall of 1940, he met Margaret. After a three year courtship they married on November 4, 1943. George started to rodeo at the age of fourteen years, and continued the tradition for several years.
Always wanting a ranch of his own, Margaret and George bought at Millerville. They later sold out and moved to Okotoks. After Foot and Mouth they relocated to a quarter section outside Lethbridge, along Highway 25. George worked for Hays and Earl Lethbridge Stock Yards as a yardman and clerk.
George loved spending time with livestock, helping supply calf roping stock to Gymcana groups and the ""Fort Whoop Up Club"". George's love for livestock lead him to commercially feeding cattle and the Charolais Cattle Industry, supplying livestock nationally and internationally.
George was greatly loved, and will be missed by all his family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge, with Valerie Martell-Kostiuk, officiating.
