Filkowski Olga

MRS. OLGA FILKOWSKI of Nobleford, beloved wife of the late Mr. Tony Filkowski, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the age of 83 years.

Olga was born on August 2, 1925 in Minsk, Belarus. She immigrated to Canada with her Parents at a very young age, growing up in Beverly, Alberta.

During her years of youth Olga loved going to dances with her sisters and playing softball. She was an avid softball player and held the pitching record until just recently. Moving to Vancouver to start her journey in life, she worked at the Ship Yards as a Riveter. In 1945 Olga moved to Nobleford, Alberta where she lived with her Auntie Katherine and Uncle Tony. There she met the love of her life Tony and they were married on February 16, 1946.

Olga was an awesome cook and she always made sure everyone who visited was always well fed. She loved to spend time in her garden, taking special pride in her roses. She was the Queen of Crossword puzzles. Family was important to her; she especially loved the many vacations spent down south with her family and grandchildren.

Olga is survived by her son Dale (Kathy) Filkowski; daughter Toni (Dan) Filkowski-Jones; grandchildren Jody (Marco), Kathleen (Braeden), Natasha, Beau (Carley)and Dustin (Krista); great-grandsons Grayson and Lucio; sisters Lydia (Larry) Bordian and Nancy (Metro) Goruk; brothers Laurie Maciuk and Duane Maciuk; sister-in-law Betty Rathgeber; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Besides her beloved husband Tony, Olga was predeceased by her parents Fred and Pauline Maciuk, sister Nina (Lee) Kay and step-father Stanley Kwarciany.

Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 - 12 Ave South, Lethbridge, with Father Tim Boyle celebrant. An Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
