ERNEST (ERNIE) ALBERT ROMANS of Lethbridge, beloved companion, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 28, 2011.
Ernie was born November 15, 1933 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He joined the R.C.R. in 1951, transferring to the Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) and served as a volunteer, peacekeepers until 1954. Ernie then owned and operated a Fina Station in Barrington, NS, later moving to the Northwest Territories and working as a project coordinator until 1997, when he retired and moved to Lethbridge.
Ernie is survived by his loving companion Kathleen Langley, his four daughters and two sons; Debra Armstrong, Keith Romans, Cynthia Romans, Catherine Gervais, Christopher Romans, and Joanne Romans. He is also survived by a sister Virginia (Howard) Thompson of Almira, Ontario and three brothers; Wayne (Cheryl) of Upper Bawdon, NS, Bruce (Elizabeth) of South Ohio, NS and Gary of Ottawa, ON.
Ernie was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Georgina, Roman's 2 sisters Joanne Barkhouse and Marjorie Davenport.
Ernie enjoyed and loved his family and his friends. He believed in just causes for the injured comrades and would go to all lengths in their aid. Ernie has served as a secretary of the Korea Veterans Association, Chinook Unit #53 of Lethbridge, and is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Ernie enjoyed photography.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge, with Major Brian Beveridge, officiating.
