ELLEN LENA KENNEDY of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Lewis James Kennedy, passed away peacefully at the Lethbridge Extendicare on Monday, November 9, 2009 at the age of 82 years.

Ellen was born in the city of Lethbridge, Alberta on October 10, 1927 to Dirk and Lillian Wetselaar. She was the eldest of four girls. Ellen married Lewis Kennedy on June 28, 1946. She was honoured for her 50 years plus in the Girl Guide movement here in Lethbridge, and was an Area Commissioner and a Guide, Ranger, Brownie and Spark leader. She was also honoured with the YWCA Woman of Distinction award in 1984.

Ellen was a long standing soldier of the Salvation Army in Lethbridge. She was a Timbrel Leader, Junior Soldier Leader and her love was the Salvation Army Sunday School.

Ellen is survived by her four daughters; Peggy (Don) Thompson, Sherry (Willie) Wipf, Kathy (Dave) Bernie, and Laurie Kennedy, her four sons; Robert Kennedy, Rick (Barb) Kennedy, Larry (Anita) Kennedy, Scott (Claudia) Kennedy, and Jim (Laurel) Brown, along with her grandchildren; Kim (Chris), Nathan, James, Anna, Matthew VanderWal, Amber (Travis) Bish, Christine (Troy), Katelyn Maddaford, Duane (Stacey), Gavin Kennedy, Heather Kennedy, A.J. (Jen) Kennedy, Scottie Kennedy, Shawn Wipf, Jason Wipf, Doug Bernie, John, Jimmy, Crystal Brown, Amanda Kennedy, Teagan, Brady, and Kassy.

A special thanks to the staff and friends at Extendicare, for everything they did for Ellen. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of them.

As per Ellen's request, a private family Memorial Service will be held, with Majors Brian and Edith Beveridge, officiating.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
