Elizabeth Paskuski

MRS. ELIZABETH ANNE ""BETTY"" PASKUSKI of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. John Paskuski, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the age of 88 years.

Betty was born on March 25, 1919 in Lethbridge to Charles and Anna (Babur) Yackulic. She attended St. Basil's School and St. Patrick's High School in Lethbridge and the Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing in Edmonton. She graduated in 1940 and was awarded the Silver Medal. Following graduation, she became the operating nurse for the Cardston Hospital. She later moved to Lethbridge and continued her nursing career at St. Michael's Hospital and then carried on to be a private duty nurse.

In 1944 Betty married John Paskuski and four years later they had their first son Robert John. In 1960 Betty and John started the first nursing home in Lethbridge with 30 patients in the old Galt Nurse's Residence. Then in 1964, their second son, Richard Charles was born.

In 1966 John and Betty opened the Edith Cavell Nursing Home with 70 patients, expanding it to 100 patients in 1969. The Nursing Home was sold to Eugene Skoritz in 1989 and it became the Edith Cavell Care Centre.

Betty is survived by her two sons Robert ""Bob"", his children Kimberly (Mike) Tymeson and Craig (Amanda ) Paskuski; Richard (Velisha) and their daughter Amanda. She was blessed with three great grandsons Brian and David Tymeson and Owen Paskuski. She is also survived by her sister Wilma Button; brother Tony (Marge) Yackulic; sisters-in-law Helen Yackulic, Elsie Yackulic, Anne Paskuski and Marion Paskuski; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Besides her beloved husband John, Betty was predeceased by her parents Charles and Anna Yackulic; sisters Minnie Fachko and Katie Lacny; brothers Joseph, George and Charles Yackulic.

There will be a private family service held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
