Mr. Edmund “Ed” Enns, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Ruth Enns, passed away at home on September 12, 2026, at the age of 86 years.
Born on February 5, 1940, in Winkler, Manitoba, Ed was the fourth of seven siblings. When he was five, the family moved to Ontario where he grew up. He came back to Southern Manitoba in his mid-twenties where he met and married Ruth, the love of his life. Jason and Jolene were both born in Manitoba, completing the family.
In 1976, on a cross country trip to Vancouver, the family stopped in Lethbridge. Ed answered an ad for ‘skilled carpenters wanted’ and was hired on the spot. And just like that, the family was moving to Lethbridge, which they proudly called home for the next 50 years.
A skilled and meticulous carpenter, Ed took great pride in his work. His talent and handiwork are woven into the homes his family lived in, from the framing and cabinetry to the kitchen table we are sitting around as we write this. Ed enjoyed a long and prolific career in the University of Lethbridge maintenance department, where he worked in carpentry for 23 years, gleefully retiring at the tender age of 62.
An avid camper and boater, he and Ruth travelled to nine of the ten provinces, usually with a trailer in tow.
He was also quick to share his skills and lend a hand. Friends and neighbours knew that Ed could be counted on when something needed fixing, building, or figuring out.
Ed’s life was all about his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was truly one of a kind: steady, thoughtful, talented, quietly funny, and always there when he was needed.
He is survived by loving wife Ruth Enns, children Jason and Jolene Enns, grandson Nicholas (Jamie) Lewis and great grandson Milo, sisters Marty and Betty.
Predeceased by parents John and Mary Enns, siblings John, Jake, Tina, and Peter.
Ed will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at EXCITE LETHBRIDGE - 101 Exhibition Wy S, Lethbridge, Alberta. Please park at either the North or West parking lot. Formal attire is not required. Family and friends are encouraged to come dressed comfortably and casually.
