""DOUG"" DOUGLAS MERVYN EGER of Lethbridge, beloved husband and cherished soul mate of Margaret Eger, passed away after a lifelong battle with diabetes on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at the age of 66 years.
Besides his loving wife and soul mate of 30 years Margaret, Doug is survived by his twin brother Cameron (Lois) Eger of Moosimin, SK; younger brother Garth (Micki) Eger of Calgary; sister-in-law Irene (Colin) Turner of Sydney, BC; brother-in-law Steve (Leona) Spisak of Lethbridge; nieces and nephews David (Karen) Eger ( Ben and Meagan), Bryce (Terri) Eger (Emma and Ethan), Lana Linton (Brianna and Jessica), Charlene Eger, Denise Spisak (Vail), David Turner (Davis); Annette Perrier (Stephen and Tim) and Diane Turner (Steven Kelliher) (Brendon). He also leaves behind Daryn Rude, godson Grayson Rude and Kate Happel who were like his special children, and special friends who were always there for him, Rodney Rude, Dr. Keith Happel, Nick Hayes, Wayne Miller, Thelma Dunn, Elsie Groves, Bob Evans, and especially Dr. E. Janzen who was always there for him to the end.
Doug was born on April 5, 1942 in Unity, SK to George and Doris Eger. As an air cadet Doug played the trumpet in their marching band and was the heavy weight boxing champ in Southern Saskatchewan. He loved to play and watch all sports and played baseball, golf and hockey (goalie and coach). He was very proud of the fact that his second cousin was Cam Neely. He entered the retail field at age 18 with Woolco Department Store and became the youngest Assist Mgr and was transferred across Canada. He later moved to Whitehorse, Yukon working for Hogan's Department Store. In 1976 he moved to Lethbridge where he met his life partner Margaret Spisak and married her on September 2, 1978. Doug worked for Designers Furniture and then Capital Furniture until 2002 when he retired due to health. He loved people and built a special friendship with many of his customers.
Doug loved everything about Christmas and was proud to be on the Christmas light tour for 20 years and won several awards. He loved his yard and flowers and loved to sit on the front deck and talk to people for hours. He loved his animals and any stray would find a way home, he leaves behind his precious Max, Martha and Mikey. Doug and Margaret loved to travel especially to Scottsdale, AZ where they loved to shop and were fortunate enough to go for 18 years.
Doug was an outgoing, optimistic, giving, sensitive, and generous person, with a zest for life and a great sense of humor. He was a caring, loving, proud husband, who supported his wife in any endeavor; he was her one man cheering squad. His favorite movie was the Ultimate Gift.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00pm and 8:00pm on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 14, 2008 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, with Reverend Larry D. Hankinson, officiating. Interment to following the Mountain View Cemetery.
