Mrs. Doreen Alyce Ross, beloved wife of the late Donald Ross, passed away in her home on September 10, 2026, at the age of 90.
Doreen was born in Clive, Alberta on May 18, 1936. The eldest of four girls, she was raised on the family farm in central Alberta. Her mother was her first school teacher. As a young woman she ventured to Calgary where she began her career as a secretary. It was in Calgary that she met Don and in 1969 they married, then moved to Lethbridge to begin their life together.
Doreen’s family and friends were priorities in her life, and her hobbies reflected that deep love and care. She was an avid quilter and was a founding member of the Lethbridge Centennial Quilter’s Guild, finding joy and connection in every stitch. Her interests didn’t end there, she also enjoyed crocheting, scrapbooking, golfing, reading, baking, and attending live music performances and theater. In her later years, she spent many hours with her beloved dog Kiko by her side.
Faith was an important part of Doreen’s life, she enjoyed her years working and volunteering at First Baptist Church. Doreen made countless memories travelling with family and friends. She and Don were particularly fond of Hawaii and travelled there many times. Doreen was the heart of her family; she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt.
Doreen is survived by her daughters Lori Asquin, and Susan (Trevor) MacLean; her precious grandchildren Jennifer (Ian) Simms, Emily (Kade) Kahlert, and Thomas MacLean, and great granddaughter Isla Simms. She is also survived by her sister Audrey French-Seniuk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her loving husband Don, Doreen was predeceased by her parents Elwood and Alys French; son Kim Asquin; sister Carole Anderson; and brothers-in-law Bob Anderson, Keith Ross, and Ed Seniuk.
Celebration of life information will be announced once completed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doreen’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
