MILENKO (MIKE) DJORDJEVIC of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Wanda Djordjevic, was called home to his creator on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the age of 90 years.

Mike was born on April 19, 1917 in Rajkovac, Serbia Yugoslavia. While receiving his education he helped on the family farm and worked in a small village to help out the family. At the age of 20 he served his time in the military and returned to the farm prior to serving his country during the German invasion. He served in King Peter II Army and was captured in the war against Germany on April 19, 1941. He spent 4 years 2 months in war prisoner camp, ""Stalog IIA"", in Germany. After liberation, he joined British C.M.W.S. force for 3 years. He immigrated to Belgium, working in the coal mines for 3 years before coming to Canada in January of 1950. He worked different jobs before being employed by Sicks Lethbridge Brewery as Head Gardener. While employed he created and constructed famous Rock Gardens and seasonal displays that were prominent on the hill.

While residing in Shaughnessy, Mike partnered with long-time friend Leo Kirsch and together they successfully built and maintained a small mushroom growing operation. In 1960, Mike and Wanda moved to Picture Butte and built a successful greenhouse business. In 1968 Mike and son Peter established and operated Taber Greenhouses.

Mike was especially proud of his awards in recognition of his accomplishments at the Brewery Gardens, where he received the ""Gardener of the Year"" from the Lethbridge and District Horticultural Society. He was also proud of being a Lions Club Member.

Upon retirement he bought a truck and camper where he and Wanda travelled throughout Canada and the U.S. Traveling was Mike's love and together with Harry Watson they travelled to many places. Another joy of Mike's was to visit Pincher Creek Hutterian colony where he specialized in roasting pigs for their many celebrations.

Prior to Mike's death he moved to Edith Cavell Care Center on March 3, 2005 where care was provided by an excellent group of caregivers. This comfort and care by the staff was very much appreciated by Mike and the family.
