The family of Mr. David Gowlland, beloved partner of Lorna Peacock, announces his passing at home on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the age of 89 years.
David is survived by his family, Reta Gowlland of Victoria, BC; nieces Charmaigne (Tom) Plugrath of Osoyoos, BC, and Tanya (Luigi) Silletta; and nieces Hanna and Sena, also of Victoria, BC.
He was predeceased by his brother, George Gowlland, who passed away in Victoria in May of last year.
David replaced his dad, who had founded Western Metal Fabricators, after his dad retired in 1962 and took over Western Metal Fabricators. He was always very proud of the work his company had done at The Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton and the structural steel designed for the Lethbridge Lodge Hotel (as it was known then). Of course there were many more. The business ceased in 1983. David was very involved in the Lethbridge Golf and Country Club and formed many friendships and spent a great deal of time perfecting his handicap.
We met in 1989 and were introduced by Teresa Bell and Linda Larson (David was dear friends with Larry and Eric). They knew of our love of "classical music," and for 36 years we shared our lives together. We purchased our home in 1990, and with his design expertise, he made it into a place of comfort and love. Aron (Platz) was in grade 7, and Robin (Platz) was in grade 6. Occasionally David had to be the "boss." We all thrived and became a loving and caring "family."
We enjoyed so much together, including Karli Kurly's organ music at Southminster Church and being invited to do the opening dance for "Love Notes" with our Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra. We attended a symphony concert in London and celebrated David's 80th birthday while on an African safari with my family, Lois and Ghasson Bader (Lenexa, Kansas), and Lorraine and Neil Johnson (Lethbridge). The Africans sang "Happy Birthday" to him in their native tongue and then in our English version. So very special.
Also very saddened is my brother Scott and Carmen, (Camrose AB). Nieces and nephews who fondly referred to him as Uncle David include Jordyn, Lauren, Connor, Pamela, Shila, Jeffrey, Jenna-Leess, Landon, Layton, Ryan, Garrett, and 6-year-old Thatcher.
David will be greatly missed by my son, Aron and Chelsie Platz, (Ulma Kansas) and Daughter Robin (Lethbridge).

A Celebration of David’s Life will be held in early Autumn.
