Pati Coghlin

Official Obituary of

28/11/1950 - to - 3/3/2009

The family of PATRICIA 'PATI' ANNE COGHLIN sadly announce her passing at the age of 58 years on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Edith Cavell Care Centre after a seven year struggle with Viral Encephalitis which left her with severe loss of her short term memory.

Pati leaves to mourn her, son David of Calgary; sister Arlene (Tom) Price and family, Jason (Ildiko), Ashlyn Price and Jeffrey Price; brother (Ron) Judy and family, Stephanie, Deana and Stuart of Whitehorse.

Pati was predeceased by her mother Stephanie (Briosi) Coghlin and her father Del Coghlin.

Pati was born in Lethbridge on November 28, 1950 and resided there until graduation. She then moved to Calgary to pursue a career in nursing-which spanned 31 years before being cut short due to her illness.

Pati specialized in GASTROENTEROLOGY and in 1992 obtained the CERTIFIED GASTROENTEROLOGY REGISTERED NURSE designation. She held professional development in high regard and was keenly interested in new technology and advancements in the GI field. She was a willing mentor to new nurses and always did her utmost to provide the best possible patient care. Pati had all of the qualities of an excellent nurse according to long time associate Dr. Jim Shepherd of Calgary.

Pati was a dedicated mother and very proud of her son David. One of her favorite life experiences was a trip to Scotland that she took with David.

Some of her hobbies were gardening, photography, playing the piano and cooking. She excelled at all of them. Playing the piano in a family band with her father and sister provided much enjoyment as a teenager, and even after the onset of her illness she was still able to enjoy playing the piano for a few more years.

Having no short term memory meant that every day was an awakening into the 'same' but totally unfamiliar world. The only familiar things were events and people from the past. Despite this handicap Pati endured courageously for 7 long years aided by the relentless love and support of her sister Arlene.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Edith Cavell Care Centre for the care they provided over the last four years. Your efforts were appreciated!

In lieu of flowers, friends may donate in Pati's memory to the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge, 4401 University Drive, Lethbridge, AB, T1K 3M4, 1-403-394-3900.

A Private Service will be held at a later date.
