John Ronald Clark
Official Obituary of
7/4/1948 - to - 16/2/2012
Rev. John ""Ron"" Ronald Clark of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Heather Clark, passed away peacefully at St. Michael's Palliative Care Centre on February 16, 2012 at the age of 63 years. In addition to his loving wife Heather, Ron will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Erin (Chris) Nordquist and Gail Clark; and his grandchildren, Ava and Ethan Nordquist. Ron is also survived by his mother, Jean Clark; two sisters Phyllis (Keith) Hanna, Laurel (Ivan) Locke; and a brother Bob (Maureen) Clark; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his father John ""Jack"" Clark, his brother Dale Clark, and his niece Kathy Bell.
Ron was born in Swift Current, SK on April 7, 1948 and spent his childhood and teenage years there. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Bachelor of Divinity from St. Andrew's College. In 1973, Ron began pastoral ministry in Big River, SK. He moved to Lethbridge, AB in the mid-seventies and worked at Leonard Friesen's Menswear and later Eaton's menswear department. It was during this time that he met Heather, and they were married on June 23, 1979. Ron later went on to minister at churches in Leader, Cut Knife, Baldwinton, and Rockhaven, SK. Upon moving back to Lethbridge in 1997, Ron began working as a Personal Care Aide at Extendicare, a job that he continued until his passing.
Ron's family and his faith were very important to him. He was a man of few words, but was a great listener, and had a genuine, warm smile. He was very compassionate and caring, traits that served him well in his pastoral ministry, his work at Extendicare, and made him an excellent son, husband, father and grandfather. He loved politics, and it was very important to him to be up to date on current events. He could often be found with his nose in a newspaper, or intently watching the news on TV. His quiet nature and easygoing spirit meant that he often went unnoticed as he served those around him, but his passing leaves a void in the lives of many. Even after his passing, Ron chose to give to others through organ donation, and through his gift four people were given sight.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at RIVER OF LIFE COMMUNITY CHURCH, 2820 18th Avenue N, with Rev. Allyn Mills, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bridges of Hope International #223, 207 - 13 Street North, Lethbridge, AB, T1H 2R6; or the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 - 10 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 9Z9.
