MRS. CLARICE VIVIAN SCHINDLER of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Dr. Quentin Schindler passed away in the early morning of February 27, 20111 after a brief illness just prior to celebrating her 98th birthday. She was born March 19, 1913.
Clarice was proud of her pioneer heritage. Her grandfather Murdoch Reid emigrated from the Isle of Lewis, Scotland with the Hudson Bay Company in 1860, working at York Factory and eventually settling in Selkirk Manitoba. He married Isabella Bird and had 8 children. One son, Duncan Reid married Agnes Ellen May who immigrated to Canada from England just after the turn of the century. Their two children Clarice and Hope were both graduate nurses. Hope worked at the Winnipeg Children's Hospital, and Clarice was a Department of Indian Affairs nurse in northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Clarice met Dr. Quentin Schindler on vacation in 1941 and married that year, becoming lifelong partners. They lived in Kenora Ontario and then Quill Lake Saskatchewan when their son Reid and their daughter Hope were born. After 4 years of graduate training in Toronto, Ontario, and London England they moved to Lethbridge in 1949. Clarice was devoted to and proud of her children, husband and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by Quentin in 1991, and is survived by son Reid (Linda) Schindler of Tucson, Arizona; daughter Hope (Erling) Olsen of Warner, AB; grandchildren Erin Olsen, Monica Olsen, Reid Olsen, Graham Schindler, Brenda Jenney and great grandchildren Rowan, Ellery, Abigail, Jaydan and Macey. Clarice will always be in our minds and hearts.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on SATURDAY MARCH 26, 2011 at the WARNER MEMORIAL CHURCH, Warner, with Pastor Jason Carrol, officiating.
