Clara (nee Retelbach) Brost

1929 ~ 2014

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me,

For now I'm free

I've left behind some misery.

My days of youthfull agility

Were no longer a possibility,

My weak joints and cloudy eyes,

Were longing for the heavenly skies.

Before I lost all dignity

You let me enter eternity.

Don't grieve for me,

You've set me free,

Just remember how I used to be!

Clara was born on July 2, 1929 in the home of her Remfert grandparents in Medicine Hat, Alberta and passed away on February 14, 2014 in Lethbridge. Clara grew up along with her brothers Albert, Samuel, George, and Harry, and sisters Martha and Adeline on the Retelbach farm south of Irvine. She received her education at Coal Centre Schol which was a two mile walk north of the Retelbach farm.

On February 2, 1949, ""Dany Boy Brost"" went on an aircraft flight over the Retelbach farm south of Irvine and dropped a small package containing a calendar with a valentine card inserted inside. It was addressed to Miss Clara Retelbach. As he flew over the farm he took a picture and marked the occasion. During the following summer Daniel also came out to visit Clara on his ""Whizzer"" motorcycle.

On December 17, 1949 Daniel Brost and Clara Retelbach were married in the Saint Peter Lutheran Church and celebrated in the 807 - 11th Street South east Medicine Hat home of Clara's parents, Emanuel and Paulina Retelbach.

Through the years Dan and Clara raised their family, sons Bryan and Larry and daughter Sandra while living in Medicine Hat, Peace River, Edmonton, and Wetaskiwin. They ran a successful family business in Wetaskiwin and later as a couple they lived in Brooks and finally they enjoyed their many retirement years gardening and growing flowers that Clara loved in Lethbridge. They were blessed with seven grandchildren Kevin, Joshua, Rosanna, Leanne, Kaley, Daniel, and Tia who became the treasures of their golden years.
