MR. CHESTER CZESLAW SLIMKO of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Jenny Slimko, passed away on April 4, 2008 at the age of 94 years.

Chester was born in Krasnpol, Poland on July 14, 1913. In 1934 he joined the Polish Army -2 Pkaualery in the city of Suwalki. In 1939 was the start of the war at the border of Palska Litvska. He was taken prisoner in 1940 by the Russian Soldiers and sent to Smolensk, Russia in 1941. He was transported to Murmonsk and later to Archangels. In 1942 he was transported to Kazakstam, then onto Iran. Later in 1942 he joined the British Army serving with the Polish Division and then went to Iraq, Palistine Port Alexandra and finally to Italy for the remainder of the War.

In 1946 he went from Italy to England and then came to Halifax in May 1947, then on to Alberta settling on a small farm he purchased in 1947. On November 8, 1948 Chester met and married Jenny, sold the farm and became a leading member of the Community and in 1973 he retired. On May 8, 1996 his loving wife passed away. He was a member of the Legion for 59 years and also a long term standing member of the Polish Club.

Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at ST. BASIL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 - 13 Street North, Lethbridge.
