Carol Judith Sawa

1946 ~ 2015

Carol Judith Sawa of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Shigeharu “Dick” Sawa, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the age of 69 years.

Carol was born on March 26, 1946 in Carrot River, SK and moved to Coaldale in 1957. She married Dick Sawa on March 5, 1966. Together they moved to Picture Butte and had three children Susan, Dean and Glen. It was there that they raised their family and together enjoyed camping, travelling to the mountains, curling, watching the boys’ hockey games and Susan’s figure skating.

In the later years, Carol and Dick resided in Taber and then Lethbridge. Carol joined TOPS and a bowling league where she loved to spend time with her “bowling girls” the Gutterbugs. The highlight of her life were her granddaughters and getting together with her family.

Besides her loving husband Dick, Carol is survived by her daughter Susan Walsh (Clifford Greg Helm); sons Dean Sawa and Glen (Tammy) Sawa; grandchildren Marie and Amber Walsh and Shaelee and Shelby Sawa; sisters Emily Caouette, Connie (Alvin) Nikkel, Barbie (Wayne) Calder; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Carol was predeceased by her parents Otto Friesen and Ruth (Epp) Friesen and her sisters Vivian Boyer.

Carol was a cherished friend and lived for her family. This was apparent in everything she did. She had a strong faith in God, and enjoyed attending church every Sunday. From this, she developed a positive attitude and an amazing ability to see the light in every situation. Even in her final weeks she never lost this light, and in that, she found peace and courage. She will be forever remembered for her sense of family, her humor, kindness and companionship.

An Inurnment will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the Coaldale Cemetery, Mennonite Section followed by a Memorial Service held at 1:00pm at the Coaldale Mennonite Church, 2316 – 17 Street, Coaldale, with Pastor Nick A. Dyck and Pastor Lillian Thompson officiating.
