Nick Busowsky

Official Obituary of

30/12/1918 - to - 10/7/2008

MYKOLA ""NICK"" BUSOWSKY of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Ludmilla ""Emily"" Busowsky, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the age of 89 years.

Besides his loving wife Emily, Nick is survived by his two children; Garry (Lynn) Busowsky of Melbourne, Australia, and Jane (Cal) Misener of Bowen Island, B.C. As well as 2 Grandchildren.

Nick was born the youngest of six children on December 30, 1918 in the Ukraine. Nick trained as an auto mechanic and in 1941 was drafted into the army. His family suffered during the war from the communist regime as they had to flee there home and travelled for months by horse and wagon. They arrived in Austria where he found work as the Chief of Auto Transport with the International Refugee Organization. This is where he met Ludmilla (Emily), his future wife. He and his family immigrated to Canada in 1948 to work on the sugar beets in Raymond. In the winter months, Nick worked as a mechanic for Smith Motors.

In 1949 Emily joined Nick and were married. They worked hard on the sugar beets and in three years bought their own farm in Shaughnessy, AB. They farmed sugar beets, wheat and also raised cattle. Nick was actively involved with the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church, both in the choir and organizational matters of the church.

Selling the farm, Nick and his family moved to a permanent residence in Lethbridge. Nick's interests supported the Lethbridge Royal Canadian Legion, and he soon gained employment with the commissionaires. In his retirement, Nick and Emily travelled to many places, exploring many different cultures, but mostly to escape the cold winters.

Nick enjoyed family and friends in many social settings, including picnics and visiting with neighbors and right to the end he cherished all of those special moments. He always liked sharing a story about one of life's adventures or to simply share some humor. Truth, integrity and a strong faith was with him to the end of his time.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gredanius and St. Michael's Health Care Center for the care he received over the last few years, the Ukrainian congregation for there never ending love and support, Reverend Taras from Calgary for providing the service and thank-you to all the wonderful neighbors who were always willing to lend a hand.

A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00pm, on Monday, July 14, 2008, at HOLY TRINITY ORTHODOX CHURCH, 634 - 13 Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am, on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at HOLY TRINITY ORTHODOX CHURCH, 634 - 13 Street North, Lethbridge, with Very Reverend Father Taras Krochak officiating. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Nick's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 - 10 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 2M7.
