1937 - 2007

JEAN MARIA BURT, beloved wife of Murray Burt, was born in Drumheller, Alberta on October 21, 1937. After her courageous battle with cancer, Jean passed away peacefully on May 11, 2007 at the age of 69 years, surrounded by her loving family.

Jean will be dearly missed for her witty sense of humor, positive attitude and always giving. She was a ""trooper"" and a ""fighter"", never giving up hope. She was an inspiration to her friends and family. Over the years Jean played ball, was an excellent bowler, enjoyed playing darts and cards, always had a crossword puzzle nearby and loved to cook and entertain. Her greatest passion was her love of golf. After her hole-in-one, there was no stopping her. She was a member of the Henderson Lake Golf Club for many years. Another passion of hers over the years was her involvement with the Order Of Royal Purple (Past Honoured Royal Lady). For 6 months, of each year, for past 15 years, Murray & Jean were known as Snowbirds, her favorite places to live other then Lethbridge were Mazatlan Mexico, Yuma AZ and Las Vegas NV, meeting many friends through the years with her fun loving personality.

Besides Murray, her loving husband and friend for over 49 years, Jean is survived by her 3 daughters Linda (Jimmy) Pote, June (Ewan) MacFarlane, Debbie (Mike) Handsaeme; 7 grandchildren Scott MacFarlane of Edinburgh, Scotland, Jennifer MacFarlane of Calgary, Richard (Heather) Handsaeme, Kriss (Phil) Guenter, Rose Anne (Eric) Payne, Kathryn Peterson and James Pote; 4 great-grandchildren Paris, Bree, Sheridan and Saydee; 2 sisters Stella (Ivor) LaMarsh of Calgary; Susan Lennstrom of Drumheller; 2 sister-in-laws Joyce (Cliff) Wenger of Vernon, BC and Helen (Ken) Harris of Palm Springs, CA and brother-in-law Bob Brown of Red Deer.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, John and Katie Byrtus; brothers Joey and Johney Byrtus; sister-in-law Betty Brown; brother-in-law Ed LaMarsh; nephews Wayne Andres and Burt Harris.

Our family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. E. Smuts of Bigelow Fowler Clinic and the staff of angels at the St Michael's Palliative Care for the comfort and care provided to her.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respect between 1:00PM and 1:45PM on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at MARTIN BROS. FUNERAL CHAPEL, 610 - 4th St. South, with the Service to follow at 2:00PM. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 - 10 Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 9Z9.
