'Ah, do not mourn,' he said,
'That we are tired, for other loves await us;
Hate on and love through unrepining hours;
Before us lies eternity; our souls
Are love, and a continual farewell.'

After a long and fulfilling life, Vi passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Beverley Centre Lake Midnapore in Calgary, on October 27th, 2008 at the age of 85.

Vi is survived by her daughters Gail and Linda, both of Calgary; one niece, Karren (Quittenbaum) and one nephew Jim (Willoughby), both of Lethbridge. She was predeceased by her mother Florence; her father, William; and her brother William (Bill); and her favourite dogs, Hobbit, a West Highland White terrier, and Gracie, an Irish Terrier.
Vi was born in Blairmore, Alberta on January 1st, 1923 and grew up in the Crowsnest Pass area before moving to Lethbridge in her teens. She retained vivid memories of her youth on her grandparent's farm in Cowley and often liked to tell us about that time and her memories of it, especially the time spent with her brother Bill.

Vi was living in Lethbridge and working at the family store when she met George, who used to come into the store to buy a few things at the end of each day. They met in 1941 and married in 1944, and spent all of their married life in Lethbridge. In later years, Vi worked at a number of stores in Lethbridge, including Eaton's, and then spent her retirement years with George managing the Oddfellows Lodge building in Lethbridge.
When George died in 1995 she was inconsolable and moved with her daughters to Calgary, where she lived for several years. Her last few years were encumbered by dementia, but she still recognized and loved her daughters and her dogs (Angus, Clodagh, and Bronwyn), and enjoyed car rides in the country on the weekends with them. During these last few years, her life was enhanced by the excellent care she received from the staff at the Beverley Centre, especially the Chaparral unit, and for this we will be forever grateful.

Since 1955, Vi was a member in good standing of the Faith Rebekah Lodge No. 93, part of the Oddfellows Lodge. She loved to crochet and talk to people and she was a truly kind soul who never had anything bad to say about anyone.

She was greatly loved by her family and will be sorely missed. Even at 85, it was too soon. We are comforted to know that her life was good and full and, although we are sad, we know she has gone to be with her George and is happy now.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Companion Animal Health Fund, Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, 501 - 121 Research Drive, Saskatoon, SK, S7N 1K2.
