MRS. BERNICE MAY WHEELER of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Kenneth James Wheeler, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the age of 77 years.
Bernice, who preferred to be called Bernie, was born in Prince Albert, SK. The family then moved to Creston, BC and then to Lethbridge. The majority of her growing years were in Lethbridge where she met and married Ken Wheeler in 1950. Bernie's life was devoted to her five sons and later to her grandchildren, then her great-grandchildren. Bernie also dedicated herself to the care of her mother Susannah until her death in May of 1997. Bernie enjoyed knitting and crocheting and making Christmas decorations from which many family members benefited. Her garden of plants and knick knacks which she was very proud of, and her home was the gathering place of her large close knit family friends and many good times.
Bernie is survived by her sons Bob (Dallas) of Calgary, Dan (Charmaine) of Lethbridge, Terry (Debora) of Leduc and Dave of Okatoks; grandchildren Deanne (Adair) Felstad, Lee Wheeler, Jennifer Wheeler, Lisa Wheeler, and Sam Wheeler; great-grandchildren Kelly and Kameron Felstad; sisters Ruby Peters and Dealia Wallace; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Besides her beloved husband Kenneth, Bernie was predeceased by her parents Susannah and Avery Wallace, son Allan Wheeler, and brother Richard Wallace.
A Special Thanks to Sandy and Mike Ballman and Kim Coolidge for all the help and love they showed her. Also a special thanks to all the doctors and nurses on the 4th floor and intensive Care Unit of the Chinook Regional Hospital who worked very hard to make her last days comfortable.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge. Interment to follow in the Archmount Cemetery.
