MRS. NORMA BALLMAN of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Maurice Ballman, passed away on April 4, 2009 at the age of 82 years.
Norma grew up in Redlyn, Saskatchewan, attending school there until she moved to Hargrave, Manitoba at the age of ten years. She attended school in Hargrave, then moved to Regina and worked in a wholesale dry goods store for six years. It was in Regina that Norma met Maurice and they married in 1950. They moved to Calgary in 1960, and back to Regina in 1963, finally making Southern Alberta their home with their move to Medicine Hat in 1967 and ultimately to Lethbridge in 2004.
Norma was actively involved with the Canadian Red Cross, receiving recognition for her volunteering services. She knitted baby blankets and clothes for Medicine Hat Hospital, Woods Homes and Blankets for Canada as well as the cherished afghans for her children and grandchildren.
Norma is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Lorne) Skihar; their children Bobbi Jo (Glen) Henry and Teri Lyn Skihar, great-grandchildren Sami Jo, Jaxon (Henry) and Chayce (Skihar); Terry Ballman and his daughter Tera Ballman; Michael (Sandy) Ballman and their children Chad and Ami. She is also survived by her sister Olive (Ken) Hutchison of Elkhorn, Manitoba, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and family.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Maurice in March of 2004, sister Grace, brother Clarence, mother Mata (Apel) and father George.
Special thanks to Phylis and Darlene and her circle of friends at Legion Terrace, thanks to Dr. A. Vanderpohl, Dr. Wilde, Dr. Ireland and Dr. Li and the staff at St. Michael's Palliative Unit and the Palliative Care Team, as well as Vital Air and home care.
Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects between 7 PM and 8 PM on Monday, April 6, 2009 at MARTIN BROS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4th Street South, Lethbridge, AB.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4th Street South, Lethbridge, AB with Deacon Cliff Bogdan officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 - 10th Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 9Z9.
