Alec Slobodian

December 19, 1936 - April 15, 2011

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of ALEC SLOBODIAN. He is the loving and proud Father of Lynn and Lori (Art). Alec lived his life for his four grandchildren: Steven, Katelyn and Leah Wells and Keaton Lubin. He is also survived by his brothers; Peter (Stephie) Malashewski, Paul (Liz) Malashewski, and Joseph (Doreen) Slobodian all of Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by his special best friend, Gerdie Cassidy. He is predeceased by his parents Justina and Teodor Slobodian.

Alec was born in Kenora, Ontario where he lived and worked for 39 years. He married Carole Roberts nee Kennedy in 1962. To him Kenora was ""God's Country,"" his favourite place. Although his family was his first love, he spent many hours boating, fishing, swimming, blueberry picking, skiing and most importantly playing hockey. He was an esteemed player for the Kenora Thistle Senior A Hockey Team.

In 1975 he relocated with his family to Lethbridge where he enjoyed a career in sales later joining the City of Lethbridge as an employee. He became an active member of AA and celebrated his 24th year of sobriety. He committed many hours mentoring and supporting community members.

Alec was an active member and team player with the Lethbridge Oldtimers' Association for the past 36 years. He played is final game April 4, 2011.

Alec was a loyal friend and supporter to many, both on and off the ice. He had a very generous heart, and loving spirit with an infectious smile. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the NICHOLAS SHERAN ICE ARENA, 401 Laval Blvd W, Lethbridge on Thursday April 21, 2011 at 1:30 pm. Please feel free to wear hockey attire or a jersey to honour his love of hockey.
