Mrs. Marilyn McKay of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Donald Grant McKay, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the age of 82 years.
Born on July 4, 1936 in London, Ontario. Marilyn worked for several years at the Royal Bank in London. At the Royal Canadian Legion in London, she met and married her loving husband, the late Donald Grant McKay (Sgt RCAF). As a military spouse and family, they moved to many places including Brunssum, The Netherlands (AFCENT) where they were able to travel and venture to many European countries. In 1979, Don and Marilyn settled in Lethbridge, where Marilyn worked at Hagen Electric, as a child care provider and at Green Acres Foundation.
Marilyn loved camping and the outdoors, with Waterton National Park and Happy Trails Fort Macleod Campsite being her favourite places. Don and Marilyn made many special friends during those years. Music was another passion of Marilyn's. As a child, she learned to play the piano and in the past few years, she enjoyed listening to weekly music performances at Martha's House and St. Michael's.
She is survived by four sons: Terry (Teresa) Elliott, Brian McKay, Kevin (Emma) McKay all of Lethbridge and David (Julien) McKay of Ottawa, Ontario; six grandchildren: Tiffani Elliott, Shauna (Shawn) Kirkland, Amy Elliott, Devyn Elliott, Conner McKay and Riley McKay; two great-grandchildren: Isabell Kirkland and Mickey Potts; as well as her brother Ken (Barb) Mills of London, Ontario.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Marion Mills, her great-granddaughter Madison Potts and her special dog, Bandit.
Her family will celebrate her life in a private ceremony and would appreciate memorial tribute donations made to The Alberta Diabetes Foundation, 8602 112 Street, Edmonton, AB., T5B 0G4.
